“Lovely country B&B with a great breakfast”
We stayed overnight in March. The bar was lively and welcoming. The room was very nice and the facilities were good. The breakfast was fantastic, with lots of choice and locally-sourced bacon and sausages. Anette made us feel very welcome.
Lovely breakfast and a very comfy room.

“Extremely friendly, lovely food”
We spent one night there to attend a family wedding reception nearby. The building itself is lovely and the bedroom decorations clean and fresh. Read less
Likes:
The room was quite spacious and comfortable with some roof beams that were very much in charaacter with the building.
Dislikes:
The shower room was a little small, but had everything needed.

Stayed for just one night but wish it was longer! The bar had a lovely relaxed feel to it – roaring fire, candle lit tables, with the rustic charm of exposed stone walls and wooden beams. The pub was busy for a Thursday evening and is clearly a popular place to eat (it was steak night). The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I stayed in room 1. It was large and well decorated – clearly they have tried to add some period features by introducing some beams, although not original they are very tastefully done. The room had all the usual tea/ coffee, TV etc. The bed was large and comfortable. My only complaint were that it was rather warm (not a problem as opened the sky light)

Looking for a stopover on route from Bristol to Cambridge with my wife on Valentines night and found the Horse and Groom with excellent reviews on trip advisor.
The Pub bar is welcoming with a cosy feel to it,
Accommodation is good honest value for money with large rooms; we were over the bar but experienced no problems with noise.
The Restaurant is a good bistro standard (more so than Pub) The Restaurant offers a varied and interesting menu; we were on the set Valentine menu but were able to change the sweet for a cheese board with no fuss.
Breakfast has the personal touch with poached eggs and local bacon and sausages to die for!
We met Jim the Chef/Owner and he should be very proud of the service and standards he is attaining at the Horse and Groom.
Would happily recommend the H&G and will be planning a return trip.

Really friendly and helpful staff. A smashing evening meal – the best steak ever! Amazing breakfast.”
Lovely family owned traditional village pub. We only stayed for one night – but will definitely stay at the Horse and Groom again when we need to travel to that part of the world.
Friendly, helpful staff. The food is local produce and the chef is excellent. Lovely large jug of fresh milk in our bedroom to make nice cup of tea.
I would prefer a room with a traditional window/view – we had a velux rooflight.
“Lovely pub, delicious food & great room”

5 of 5 starsReviewed 10 November 2012

We stayed here with our 6 month old daughter for a night whilst visiting the area and we booked a room after reading the reviews online. We are so glad we decided to stay here rather than booking a characterless hotel! We received a very warm welcome. We stayed in the family room and found the accommodation to be clean and homely with everything you need for a stay – tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer, lovely smelling toiletries, extra pillows and blankets ( we didnt need them as it was lovely and snug), ipod docking clock, large flat screen tv, bath etc. The family room has recently been redecorated and the carpets seemed new too. It has a lovely velux window with blackout blind….we woke up thinking it was still the middle of the night when it was in fact light outside! We had dinner in the pub and it was fantastic quality and not your typical pub grub, more gastro pub quality with a good choice of fresh produce….it definately exceeded our expectations. The breakfast was also very good. The staff were very helpful and friendly and took an interest in our plans for the stay and offered tips on places to go. Overall this was a great place to stay, eat and drink and we will be looking for an excuse to go back to visit!

“best risotto ever!”

5 of 5 starsReviewed 9 November 2012

We went here for lunch a few weeks ago, the pub was not busy and so I cannot comment on the service etc . The food, however, deserves great praise. A wide and very varied lunchtime menu was offered. The food came quite quickly – it had all been freshly cooked and we all (6 of us) had different dishes. My vegetarian risotto was the best I have ever had. We shall return many times, this is a real find.

“A lovely little pub with great food and accommodation”

5 of 5 starsReviewed 26 October 2012

A charming country pub with first class food, reasonably priced and very comfortable accommodation.
The owners make you feel most welcome which adds to the relaxing atmosphere of the pub.
If you are ever in this part of the country it really is worth a visit.

“a great pub”

5 of 5 starsReviewed 17 October 2012 NEW

Took me a little time to find on tripadvisor because I was using “AND” rather than “&”.

Been coming here as a regular for a year now, roughly the same time that the current owners have been running the Horse & Groom. The food is first class, so good in fact that news has spread and at weekends it is difficult to get a table unless pre-booked.

Some excellent food offers are run throughout the week. Currently the buy one get one free burgers on a Monday evening are not to be missed.

A good selection of beers, and even better selection of locals. The H&G has come on leaps and bounds in the last year.

Downsides – it’s not open on a Sunday evening, but that’s down to lack of custom rather than anything else.

I can’t comment on the sleep quality as I have yet to fall asleep at the bar, but that’s a possibility.

Check it out, you will not be disappointed.

10/10/12 – ‘SIMPLY THE BEST’

This place is a well kept secret….but not for long! The owners are delightful, and very welcoming. The food is priced way too low for the quality & taste, which is a surprise and the menu itself is very varied and has something for everyone. Wine list is very good. Everything is just ideal for a lovely meal in the countryside. Been here a few times recently, and the tempura prawns were the best I had had, whilst the roast potatoes and gravy are not to be missed. On one occasion had a sunday roast – beef – which was impossible to fault. My partner and I have now decided that its our new ‘local’.

“Just what we were looking for.”

5 of 5 starsReviewed 8 October 2012 NEW

What a lovely friendly place to stay in. The food in the evening and breakfast was very good and tasty. Nothing was too much trouble for the benifit of our comfort or dietry needs. We were away on a Silverstone Experience for the men of the group, the oppertunity to stay in a pub with olde world characture ticked the boxes. We shall definatly be recomending The Horse and Groom to friends and family. Thank you all at The Horse and Groom .

We were made very welcome, our room was spacious ,we didnt try dinner but wished we had, the price of dinner was very reasonable , the restaurant was fresh, clean and inviting. Breakfast was perfect. 5 OUT OF 5!

08/08

Booked 2 nights B&B at short notice for a weekend break. Very warm welcome and nice room in the eaves with Velux window. Everything spotlessly clean and fresh-looking, with pine furniture. TV with freeview, tea-making, hairdryer etc.
Friendly, cosy pub, with locals. Option of eating in pub or surprisingly large restaurant from same big choice menu at sensible prices. We ate both nights in the restaurant and found both food and service excellent.
Breakfast offered cereals, fresh fruit and full English, and was first rate.
We will certainly stay again, and would heartily recommend it.

“Good Accomodation”
We were visiting the local Beer Festival in Hook Norton and needed a good quality accomodation within walking distance of that location.
Very friendly welcome and excellent service throughout our two night stay.

“Fantastic Sunday Lunch”

5 of 5 starsReviewed 15 July 2012 NEW via mobile

Now we didn’t stay the night but visited this pub for Sunday lunch when my folks came to visit after it being recommended by my father-in-law. I don’t often review places but in this instance felt compelled to. I have to say that the food was absolutely fantastic. I rarely have a roast dinner out as I’m quite fussy about it & find pubs just can’t come close to a home cooked roast. However, after reading some of the reviews on here I thought it was worth a try. I’m so glad I did, because this has gone down as possibly the nicest roast I’ve ever had. Certainly the best I’ve ever eaten out.

The staff were very friendly and helpful & we all felt very welcome. Our 3 year old daughter really enjoyed her meal, even trying some of everyone else’s as well as eating her own :) .

We all enjoyed it so much my folks have decided to stay there next time they come up for the weekend & I really can’t wait to go back very very soon.

The food was delicious & cannot be faulted. It was also very reasonable priced considering the quality of the ingredients. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

“proper country pub”
Reviewed 10 July 2012 NEW
I’ve driven passed this pub many times thinking ‘we must go and have a drink in that cute little pub’ we finally did try it and it’s definately worth the wait!. A lovely little friendly pub, very busy for a thursday night, (nice to see a local pub, doing well and full of locals!) The food was basic pub food but done very well, exactly what you want. We both had steak (on tues 2 steaks for £20!), food was lovely, big portions and I like the fact that they source very local products, even veg from local allotments. In short a wonderful little pub, I hope it continues to do well, when so many pubs are closing and will definately be back.

“Friendly pub with a great atmosphere”

Stayed overnight to break our journey to and from our holiday destination.

As soon as we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. Accomodation was good and very clean. Food was excellent, all home cooked, varied menu much superior to most pub food, with friendly service.

Commented: You could not have made us more welcome if we had been staying for a week instead of one night, thanks for that.

“Outstanding!”

We stayed overnight as we were playing golf at Tadmarton Heath the following day. We booked because of the proximity to the course but were blown away by the exceptional hospitality, fantastic rustic setting and delicious food both at dinner and breakfast. I have stayed at a lot of hotels and B&Bs and the breakfast served up at the Horse & Groom is one of the best I’ve had. Felt like a guest in the proprietors home, highly recommended.NB Tadmarton Heath Golf Course is also first class

Hospitality, warmth, food, comfort, ales, friendliness, food, location, rustic feel, the local patrons…did I mention the high quality, locally sourced food?

No. Not in the slightest. Nada. Nothing. Nil. Zilch. Zip.

Would recommend to a friend.

relaxing weekend
we had a very relaxing 3 night stay, the ensuite room was very spacious and clean, at night we slept very well as it was a very quiet area. the breakfasts were delicious and filling.
we had a meal in the restaurant on our first nights stay and the food was very good and at a
reasonable price, we would have dined there more but we were touring the cotswolds through the day so we had our meals enroute. we would recommend the horse and groom for anyone
wanting a relaxing break in the cotswolds

Milcombe Visit

From the start I was made welcome. All the staff were friendly and efficient. I am an elderly lady and without asking my case was carried upstairs for me. Although breakfast is served from 8.00 at weekends, I was able to have mine at 7.30. The Inn is set in a beautiful situation and was very close to the venue I was visiting. The restaurant was attractive, but cosy. The menu was varied and the food was very tasty if a little too much for my appetite. The Inn has recently been refurbished and the traditional style has been maintained. I found my weekend to be very comfortable. Although I was a lone traveller I had no problem in dining in the Restaurant. Sometimes this can be daunting.

Good! good! good! Warm friendly welcome. Great value for money-eat the beautifully cooked breakfast and you don’t need to buy at lunch time. We ate at the Horse and Groom each evening. There was plenty of choice, beautifully cooked and presented. Real ale with the meal and no driving home afterwards. We have already recommended the hotel to friendsReviewed by

We stayed here for two nights over Easter Week End. We recieved a warn friendly welcome and shown to our room. The room was brilliant! Food in the resturant was excellent, plenty of it and very good value for money. Breakfast again was brilliant.

It was nice to stay in a small family run Villiage inn and enjoy the friendly hospitality and peace and quiet and wake up to the sound of birds and not the traffic.

We will definantly pay another visit.

Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Didn’t stay as its close to home, but friends need somewhere to stay, we will certainly recommend here.

We were given a warm welcome at the Horse & Groom. This is a great country pub, with a gorgeous open stove and tasteful decoration. Our room was comfortable and very clean with real milk in the little fridge a great touch. We had a superb meal on Saturday evening, the lemon sole with black olive potatoes are delicious. Breakfast was of the highest quality and nothing was too much trouble. Would definately recommend and hope to visit again soon. xx
